End of Round 3--before and after pics

End of Round 3 of my journey!!! my before pictures are on the right after are on the left. After 3 rounds of the 21 day fix I have lost 15 pounds!!!!  woo hoo!!! and 14 inches total! I can't believe it!! I never thought 'd get down to this weight again, and feel so good! I sleep better and have more energy to do things but once I lay down I am out for the count! Sleep so much better too! Here's to no anti depressants, no hi cholesterol medication, and no soda!!! and not so much sugar. But once in a while you have to let yourself have a treat.
I love experimenting with skinny recipes, and adding flavor to veggie's and protein. I have also substituted zucchini and spaghetti squash for pasta YUM! Just cuz you are trying to be healthy and lose weight doesn't mean you have to eat boring food.
Here's to starting Round 4!!  My goal is to get down to my pre-desk job weight.... I CAN do it!!!  10 more pounds to go.
I think losing slowly is best... You keep it off better that way.
Just believe in yourself... You can do more than you think you can!

Take the journey 1 step at a time...

My 21 day coach posted this on FB and I LOVED it.... so true in all aspects of life. Life is a journey, sometimes you hit hard  areas, sometimes you get discouraged, sometimes you question everything you have ever been taught, but you have to remember to take one step at a time and keep stepping. :)
In exercising there are exercises I would rather skip, but I know in the long run I need to do them to get rid of my fat and flab and be healthy.
In my testimony, there are things I have questioned lately, but I do know that the basic teachings of the gospel are true and make me happy. If I left the church I would be lost. I NEED the hope the gospel gives me and the peace. I LOVE my Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ and know they help me EVERY day. I read the following article (my sweet daughter sent it to me) and LOVED the part about your testimony being like a stone wall... you gain it one stone at a time an no one else's is like it. I will share that below.
I just love feeling good for a change and just going forward with a  prayer in my heart and looking for the good in all things. :)
I will Live and LOVE life  and the journey along the way :)
I loved parts of this and thought it was a good read......

6 THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN YOU'RE TIRED OF MORMONS
As I've mentioned countless times before, I live in Utah amongst countless Mormons. And hurrah! I, too, am a Mormon. On the other hand, my entire life, I have felt like I wasn't like everybody else. I know the church is true and I do my best to live my morals, but I have a different stance on many opinions and views than a lot of my LDS peers. A friend of mine shared this article on Facebook and I instantly read the entire article to my husband, getting slightly teary-eyed during parts of it, and celebrating in my head. I'm not alone, here. I thought I'd share this article on my blog because it really is one of the best.

I do want to stress that this post is not written by me. The content is not mine. I simply shared this post because it resonated with my soul & I wanted to share it to my readers as well as ponder back on it for my reference.

Liz, the author of this article mentioned some similar hardships that I share with people here in Utah. She said, "..over the years, I've found a way to carve out my own space in the Church. It's an ongoing process, but I thought I'd share some of my tools - a practical guide to how to carve out your own space of belonging. Some of these tools may work for you, some of them may not. Spirituality is so personal. But if you sometimes sit in sacrament meeting and wonder what the hell you're doing there, know that I've been there, and sometimes I'm still there, but remembering the following things help me to keep perspective."

1. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of you - just what you think of you, and what God thinks of you.
This is probably the biggest guiding principle in my life. And it's completely impossible to truly remember and live by all the time. But it's really what everything else in this list comes down to, and when you can remember it, it's empowering. So what if the Relief Society President thinks you're immodest? She's not in charge of your eternal salvation. And even if she or other leaders have a hand in your eternal judgement, God's judgement will override any of that.

2. Personal revelation is more important than anything else.
In our Church, we speak often about the importance of obedience, of faith in the Church, of following the counsel of leaders even when we don't understand it. And there is value in those things...we can grow and learn from doing those things. But there may be times that your own conscience may dictate otherwise. Those are painful moments, and it can be really really difficult to trust that you're doing the right thing in following your own heart. And maybe sometimes it's NOT the right thing to follow your own heart. But your responsibility as a human being is to take everything you are told to the Lord. And if your own personal revelation says something contrary to what leaders of the Church may say, trust it. I'm not talking about things like commandments. Personal revelation will NOT be contrary to the commandments. I'm talking about things like leader's opinions on the Big Bang, or the best way to be a parent, or what legislation should be passed. I honor and sustain the men and women called to lead this Church, but recognize that it is not meet that we are commanded in all things, and that sometimes something that seems like revelation for the entire Church may not be when you seek confirmation of it. Others may judge you for your interpretation by statements by leaders, but those who pass judgement are not in charge of your eternal salvation, so it doesn't matter what they think.

3. You have permission to leave if your pain exceeds your nourishment.
I mean this on a short-term basis, although I think it can apply long-term. But since the point of this post is to help people stay active if they want to, I'm mostly focusing on short-term. It's inevitable that someone will say something in one of your meetings someday that rubs you the wrong way. You may never have a day when you go to Church and 100% agree with everyone around you. Most of the time you can just shift your focus, listen to the Spirit, dig into your scriptures on your own, find some way to help you stay grounded. But sometimes the sheer effort of doing that distracts from the actual nourishment you can be receiving. So if you need to step out for a few minutes, for the rest of the meeting, or for the rest of the day, give yourself permission to do that. Take your worship into your own hands. It's almost always best to stay. But if you're not getting anything out of Church, put yourself in a situation where you ARE being spiritually nourished.

4. God's children are flawed, imperfect, fallible, messy, emotional wrecks.
This includes:
-the elderly man who takes his sacrament talk as an opportunity to share his personal opinions on abortion and gay marriage.
-The bishop, Relief Society president, the Elder's Quorum president, and any other leaders
-The lady in Sunday school who says the only sex ed children need is the story of Joseph and Potiphar's wife
-The Stake President's wife, who tells everyone from the pulpit that you will feel the Spirit more if you shower every day
-The guy in your ward who says he gets to tell you that your stick-on tattoo is against the Honor Code because "he has the Priesthood and you don't"
-The Sunday School teacher who dismisses the comments a woman makes about the lesson, and then welcomes the exact same comment when it is made by a man.
All of these are based on true and personal stories. The point is, "The Gospel is perfect, the people are not." And as difficult as it is to remember, this also goes for the prophets and apostles. Which takes me back to point #2--personal revelation is more important than anything else. If a leader says something you don't feel comfortable with, you have a right to take it to the Lord, figure it out, maybe even reject it. But no one should have to censor themselves to your own standards/beliefs..Even the idiots have a right to be here. They have a right to say whatever they do, and you have a right to dismiss it if you feel you must. (Also note, you are a flawed, imperfect, fallible, messy, emotional wreck).
The other part of this truth is this:In the words of an old friend, "If somebody seems perfect, then either #1.They're Jesus or #2. They have something to hide. Probably #2 though." Many of the people you see at Church seem "orthodox" and "perfect" but are likely carrying things the rest of us can only dream of. Don't fail to imagine others complexly.

5. The purpose of Church is to nourish everyone, including those who are just beginning.
For those who have been members for many years, or for the intellectual types, Church can sometimes just get plain boring. There is so much insanely interesting stuff in the scriptures and in Church history...complicated details that deserve our time and attention. And 99% of the time, that's NOT the stuff we talk about in Sunday School. But that's because everyone is at a different place in their progression and testimony. What if someone is returning to Church after a long hiatus? Or what if someone just got baptized? Or what if they're just investigating? Discussing the connections between LDS temple ceremonies and Masonic ritual is NOT going to bring them closer to Christ--it will probably overwhelm them. I'm not saying that studying those things is bad. In fact, I think it's really good and really really important. But that's what personal study is for, or discussions with friends and family. This is totally the "Gospel According to Liz," but to me it makes sense to say that while there is overlap. Church is primarily the time for nourishment, and personal study is primarily the time for learning.

6. For most of us, life is better with the Church than without it.
This is the ultimate truth that keeps me in the pews. Because I haven't always had the Church in my life. And there have been times when I've had the Church, but not as fully. And here's what I think. Life can be painful and complicated and overwhelming. And that's true whether you're in the Church or not. So if it's true, you might as well continue to receive nourishment where you can. I know I can use all the help I can get when it comes to life, and the Gospel is the best source of help I've found.

Here's a final thought. Your testimony is like a rock wall. Everyone is constantly building to their walls, stone by stone. And every now and then, you may stumble upon a stone and not see exactly where it fits. It may be labeled "gay marriage" or "visiting teaching" or "hymns are boring" or "why do we have so many freaking meetings and why are so they so freaking long." But that doesn't mean you abandon the wall. It means you set the stone aside and keep building with what you DO know. And as you build, you may suddenly see where that stone fits. Some people have likened this process to a jigsaw puzzle, but that implies that every one's testimony looks the same eventually. I like the stone wall better because every one's will look completely different, and have different foundations, but all of them are still valid. It can be frustrating to feel sometimes like you're surrounded by stones you don't understand. But hang in there. You'll find their place eventually. And as you do, you'll find your OWN place, too.

Then went to Walla Walla to visit and we made enchilada's and tamales. And Sticky buns and cookies. And we went to the Farmer's market and ate ... and walked down main street and ate.... With all that I was still down another 2 1/2 pounds and lost 2 more inches total. Not too bad. I Feel better and my clothes are baggier.. YAY! Cant wait to see results from round 3 :)

Happy 89th Birthday to my wonderful Dad.....

Yesterday we celebrated my Dads 89th birthday. He has been such a great dad, and an awesome example of a good person. Always putting others above himself, and working hard. Days he misses church to stay home with my mom if she's not feeling well , he feels terrible for not going. He's just an all around good man. AND a great scrabble player, seems he wins all the games lately!
I am lucky that I get to spend as much time as I do with these two people. I cherish the memories I am making with them. I love helping them out when I can and playing Sunday scrabble and now Thursday night scrabble too.
I especially love it when we accidentally write a silly word and mom gets the giggles and covers her mouth. She's so cute!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! Here's to another awesome year of fun scrabble games and watching old movies! LOVE YOU!
Made him a cow cake since my early memories are of Dad milking cows.
It was fun to make the little cows.
Wonder what I will do for Dad's 90th Birthday. Hmmmm..........

End of my first round with the '21 Day Fix"!

I made it!!! 21 days straight of eating healthy and exercising!! Yay!! I lost a total of 7 and 1/2 pounds... (not bad for 21 days) and a total of 11 inches!! 2 whole inches off each of my thighs, and butt, and waist!! Woo hoo! I was amazed at the results! and what is also amazing is I FEEL so much better! More energy, I'm happier and I feel Powerful! You know, you can do anything you set your mind to.
As a little reward, I bought a new exercise bra and tank top to match my new workout shoes....

Now I'm going to start another round of 21 days of exercising. I am going to push myself and not follow the modifier so much and I am also going to try adding in a 25 minutes of walking / jogging on the treadmill or bike riding 3 -5 days a week.
My goal is to get to my pre desk job weight / shape.
Here's to turning over a new leaf (lifestyle)

Yes, I am still here.....life is full of struggles--and my summer of finding myself.....

Yes I'm still here..... I having been trying to keep up with this blog and our lives for some time now, the harder I try the more I get behind. Life goes on rather rapidly anymore.
I have had an on going struggle for some time. Nothing major just things going on inside me with how I have felt lately and fighting inner battles.
My husband is great... great support, great friend, has a great job and supports our family.
My kids are great. Sarah graduated college with a degree in Public Relations, had a great career with a Tek Systems at the moment.
Andrew is going in to illustration  / art at college but at the moment taking a break to decide what college to finish at.
Me  well.... I am me. it seems since I had my hysterectomy I have been trying to figure out who I am. Not that the hysterectomy caused anything, I was rather emotional before, and it's great not having those really emotional times when the old period time rolled around. (SO great not having those anymore) ... but it kind of marked a time of life for me I think. My kids were living their own lives, and I needed to figure out who I was / am.... I lived my life for my kids... and now I needed to live my  life for me I guess. But what did that mean?
My job changed to a new office, I didn't get the public contact that I usually like.. I loved it working at the bakery, and when I started at First American (surprisingly I LOVE taking to people I don't know) , I was the receptionist, but with management changes and things I thought I would be better off switching to an office where I did data entry.
I loved it / but didn't at the same time. I was on an emotional roller coaster.
I remember one time going to my sister-in-laws house for a celebration of my parents wedding anniversary, and they played the video that was made on their 50th wedding anniversary. I am a sentimental  person.... I almost can't look at pictures of my kids because I miss those little kids but yet it brings a smile to my face. My kids always bring a smile to my face. But that day, I remember seeing my little kids on that video and I got all sentimental and mushy inside and cried a bit. I have always been a crier..... once I start I can't seem to quit.
But it was that day than my sister in law with good intentions said she thought I might need to have my estrogen increased..... I thought , well ... there must be something wrong with me.
So the next time I went to my OB Gyn I mentioned it, and of course started bawling on the doctor table,.... sentimental me thinking I was crazy and feeling bad for it I guess.
So she immediately prescribed anti-depressants. Which I took because I thought that is what I had.
but that was the worst thing ever. I would get mad.... and I remember I almost growled at my daughter on the phone! I was also taking Black Cohosh..... I watched a Doctor show on TV and they said that might increase your lebido(not sure how to spell that).... which I thought I needed because ever since my hysterectomy, sex was the last thing I thought about.
Anyway... I quit taking both of those. But with a desk job, I noticed I had started to gain weight... and that was depressing me too, if depression was what I really had. I had always been in charge of my weight and could control it, but I kept gaining and gaining... so I tried diets and exercise but never really found anything that worked.
And visits to my OB gyn provided different anti-depressants. Which I felt fine with at first but the longer I took them the more I felt.......depressed??? Down is a a good word... so down and dark I didn't want to get out of bed. Can anti-depressants cause depression??? yes I think they can.
Besides feeling so down and dark a lot I thought well, if I keep myself busy, then I can't think about it. I had started my recipe blog, which soon took over me.... I thought I was a celebrity, and comments and oooh I love your recipe for this and this... and comments of you should own your own bakery, and you need a restaurant... became who I was. And if I couldn't have that bakery, or restaurant, I became  more down... because I thought that's who I was......have you really thought about getting into the restaurant business / or bakery business??? you don't have time for anything else! Restaurant people work 16 hours or more a day? no time for life!!!
I don't think that is really what I want!
But I did take a cake decorating class from Michaels. that has always been on my Bucket list of things to do.... LOVEd it. But soon I started making cakes for people... and the more practice I got the better I got which was good for me.... but people are funny. The more you are willing to do for them the more they ask and seem to take advantage of you. I never know what to charge people cuz they are my friends and I hate charging for my cakes because I am far from a professional. And I love making them... but my stars... one weekend I had 3 cakes... that was a breaking point... enough I said!  I still made a few cakes for friends because they had been promised but believe me... I'm not getting that crazy into it again.
I also crocheted... I like keeping my hands busy while watching tv so I wouldn't eat.....but that ran away with me too.. pretty soon friends asked me to make this and this and this..... goodness.
Then I thought I would go back to beauty school...Ha! that was only for a few months... I found out i have early stages of arthritis...but it gave me an out on my crazy beautician notion... I may have liked it but then again ... I don't think I would have.
That was my working side of it all....there is a religious side too....
I got released from Young Women's soon after my hysterectomy. I was ready for that. but I wasn't ready for that spiritual mantel to go away that you sometimes get with a calling... I felt sad and lost. Then I got asked to teach relief society .... I was really nervous but put my whole self into it. And studied and prepared for my lessons which went really well at first. But I started feeling myself getting to be known for that? does that make sense? so if I didn't get praise after teaching I felt I had failed indeed.
After 2 years + of that I felt really ready to be released...topics become repetitive and so I didn't put my whole self into it.
I got released ...... but got asked to be the Young Women's president. At first I was sure! I can do that. After all I loved the young women... but then it hit me. All the responsibilities and things. I called a presidency and felt good about it . But I was surprised at how hard it can be to work with different people and meshing everyone's personalities. Anyway... after a few months I had a major melt down. I felt like going inactive. I also questioned my faith.... my testimony.... I had a strong one before that. I still struggle with it... wondering why does the gospel make you go to all these meetings/ sometimes there are meetings just to have meetings. Do they accomplish anything? I had girls quit coming to YW's and felt like they didn't like me... it was something I did. How do you make girls get more excited??? but then after thinking back to when I was a teenager... nothing or no one could make me go if I didn't want to.
I do have a strong testimony of prayer and that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ really really do care and they don't abandon you..even though at the time I felt like they had. but looking back a year and half later they were with me more than I know.  The first of last year was like awful.. I felt so dark... and had no desire to do anything. But this last summer, I have prayed... REALLY prayed for help. Help to find the real me... Help to have the energy to exercise and lose weight. just plain HELP.
I know this sounds terrible ... but after one of those prayers I had the thought of the times when I was in my early 20's and I would work out but I would drink coffee.... It helped give me energy and I was happy and healthy..... After all these years of being told not to drink coffee it was hard to start...but I looked up good and bad things about drinking coffee and the good out weighed the bad. It helps with digestion, it helps with DEPRESSION!!!! so I drink coffee I don't have to have it everyday and I don't.. but once in a while it really soothes my soul.... I have weaned myself off my anti depressants.... I have quit taking my cholestrol medication.... I HAVE Started exercising (LOVE THE 21 day fix program of eating healthy and exercising........ I am eating healthy!! I FEEL Better than I have felt in a LONG time! I am happy! I have emotions!! it's ok to have emotions!!!!  and I started taking piano lessons! another thing on my bucket list!!! something I have wanted to start again since I quit taking them when I was 12 cuz I was scared I would have to play in a recital!!! LOL I love them and WANT to take piano lessons. I went on small mini vacations with my hubby! I realize vacations don't have to include the kids!!  This is my time to get to know my husband again!!! and myself! We saw the beauty of Yellowstone park together!! Old Faithful! and realized people are all the same! just trying to live life..... and that God put some amazing things in this world... We went to Zions's National park and Kolob canyon and red rock canyon.. I saw the big rock candy mountain that I remembered from a vacation as a kid... I hiked up a mountain despite my fear of heights!!! LOVED it! I am happy...... truly happy, and whether I have a strong testimony of the gospel right now or not... I do have one of my Heavenly Father and his Son Jesus Christ and know they love me..... and they made this world for me ... and I love the beauty of the earth.
and My body is something that I need to take care of ... Heavenly Father made that too... and right now I'm taking care of it and staying healthy. I also don't drink diet soda so much any more and don't eat yogurt with aspartame... I drink tons of water! LOVE it. I haven't truly felt this good in a LONG long time.....Here's to my 21 day fix and my summer of finding myself..... and being healthy for the rest of my life......
Today is my 14th day of my 21 day fix....1st round.
Here are my before pictures...

These were takien last summer.... but my weight was the same then as before I started my fix... I will post more as my journey continues... and I'll post pictures as aI go.... Here's to making a change......
