Happy Anniversary!

Jim and I celebrated our 24th Anniversary on Monday, August 13 (yes I know it's almost Thanksgiving but life is busy sometimes)
I decided to make a romantic dinner and eat out on the deck with my hubby while we played romantic tunes on Pandora Radio....
But I don't know how romantic it can be with your son eating with you...
but Andy did feel silly so he went inside...
I made grilled Shrimp and Steak with a balsamic mushroom and onion sauce for the steaks, cheesy zucchini rice, and steamed brocolli...
YUM! and for dessert, mini-strawberry cheesecakes with chocolate sauce
It was yummy! I tried to get Jim to give me a kiss.... but he chose not to....
I guess I can't blame him with that mug coming at him... LOL. He surprised me with flowers at work
After 24 years he still surprises me. After dinner we danced to one song out on the deck and that was our Anniversay..... here's to 24 more years (and more) of wedded bliss! Love you James!

Helping Sarah....

Towards the end of July, Jim and I decided to take a few days to go to Provo and help Sarah get motivated to take care of things that she needed to take care of so that she could start school in the fall. She was motivated but needed an extra push and some info that Jim and I could take to her so she could get residency. We pricelined a motel and ended up staying at the Residence Inn Marriot Motel right in downtown Provo. That motel is like a mini-apartment! It had a full kitchen! Was way nice. It was only 2 blocks from Olive Garden where Sarah works! We got there Thursday night after work. Sarah finished her evening at work and dropped by to see us. Seeing the motel room and not liking her house much anymore and being soooo far from things kind of sparked something inside Sarah, so she wanted to start looking for another apartment. Her landlord at her house had said he was thinking of putting the house back on the market, and that would mean that if they had a buyer, Sarah would have 30 days to find a place and move! Yikes! So anyway, that thought was at the back of her mind.
We had a good visit, and then went to bed with the idea of getting up early and taking care of business at UVU. We got up early and ate breakfast, our motel had a great continental breakfast. Yay! I love those, except I don't understand why they have them so darn early! Don't they know if people stay there for a vacation they like to sleep in? But anyway, Sarah met us at the motel, and then we were off! We went to UVU and helped Sarah take the info she needed to the Residency office, and we showed Jim the Honey Badger!! (it's really a Wolverine, and the mascot of UVU) but you need to go look up the 'honey badger' on you tube to understand me and Sarah. :)
While we were waiting with Sarah to get her turn talking to the financial counselor, we got bored and took a few silly pictures....
that's only a few!!!! We got things taken care of at the school. And Sarah was actually way excited for school to start!!! She ended up getting residency! Tuition went from $6000 down to $2500 a semester! sooooo worth the trip!
I dont' know what it is, but every time we go visit Sarah, she has a way of making you want to buy her stuff without even asking! She had mentioned she needed new work shoes, so we went to get some and ended up buying her new work pants, shirts, ties AND work shoes.... This is Jim waiting while Sarah tried on clothes... he looks like he knows he's going to spend some bucks!
We ate lunch at Red Robin, then Sarah had to work, so Jim and I wandered around and spent time looking at houses. Then we ate dinner at Olive Garden so Sarah could wait on us. All in all it was a good day and we were happy we took care of business. Saturday morning came and we all got up and went to Salt Lake City. We needed to check out the IKEA store, we were looking for good bookcases, one for Andrew's room so he'd have a place for all of his stuff when he moved home, and one for my craft room for cookbooks, yarn, and you name it. IKEA is a fun store, you need to go there sometime. We also went to the Fashion Place mall (my favorite mall in SLC I think) and ate at the Cheesecake factory....Sarah got her favorite, the Miso Salmon....
Jim and I got tacos and a burrito..... Delish!
And of course... if you go to Cheesecake factory you have to get cheese cake no matter how full you are!
We got a Reese's peanut butter cheesecake...
it was way good!
                                      but we got WAY Full!!!
After our day in Salt Lake, we went back to Provo, and Sarah showed us some lovely houses in the hills of Provo! Sometimes I'd like to move there... if there was a job for Jim and if we didn't feel like we should be here for Mom and Dad.
We watched movies in our motel. Then Sunday we said goodbye to Sarah (she had to work) and Jim and I headed home, stopping at IKEA for the bookcases we had picked out, and then we relaxed getting ready for another work week. It was a fun get away.
Sarah looked at apartments for the next few weeks and found one!!! It's a townhouse that's actually in Orem, 2 minutes from Olive Garden (where Sarah works) and 5 minutes from UVU! It was too good to pass up! There would be 4 other girls (some return missionaries) and Sarah would get the master bedroom which means she has a huge walk in closet and her own bathroom! it's sooooo worth the extra 50 bucks a month I'd say. You've probably have seen the pics from FB but I will post some pics here.
Andrew and I took a few days to go to Provo to move Sarah the weekend of August 11th. We all had a good time and a lot of laughs. We took Andrew to lunch at J Dawgs... if you have never eaten there you definitely need too! LOVE the place....
We made lots of trips going back and forth from Sarah's old house to her new one and we kept way busy. But it was a good thing to move her and she LOVES her new house and her new roomies! Here are some pics of her new place.....
Her bed is at one end of her room... and the door to her bathroom is at the other end along with her desk and study area.............
Stepping into her bathroom
                                  Her bathtub AND shower......
                                       the doorway of her closet.........
All in all she is way happier with her new place and her roomies are way nice. They all range in ages from 24 to 30 so there aren't any newbie college girls. After we got Sarah settled Andrew and I had to head for home.... so we bought Sarah some dinner at Taco Bell...
Gave her some hugs and took a few last pictures.... and Andrew and I were on our way.
Andy and I went to the Gateway mall and wandered around a bit, couldn't decide where to eat. After driving a while and getting out of the busy traffic we stopped at Taco Bell too. Sarah's food made us hungry for Taco Bell.
We made it home safe, and were happy knowing Sarah was happy. She had grants this year since she's over 25 and that paid for school, she took a little of her loan money to use for rent through January so she doesn't have to work as much and will be able to devote most of her time to school and homework. She's been doing great and LOVES being in school again. I'm proud of her and her turning over a new leaf......

Moving Andy home.............

My empty nest is half full again. Andrew got done with his summer semester with an Associates degree!! Woo hooo!!! His semester ended the 18th of July, and now he is on his off track for the fall. This meant he would need to move back home. So being the kind mother that I am, I spent a few days hauling things back from Rexburg to Blackfoot. It's amazing how much stuff my kids can pack into a small apartment bedroom!! But I've always said you might as well make the room feel like home so you are happy there, to me that makes you feel comfortable and you're more likely to study and do a good job. So I don't mind helping my kids.
I took an afternoon off on the Friday he had to be out and helped clean. Andrew was lucky and had the kitchen. Well, maybe not so lucky, I almost gagged (okay I did gag) trying to do the dishes. I think he owes me for that one. But we got done by 9 that evening.
He was all moved out. He had mixed emotions, he was sad to leave his classes, nerdy art friends, and the companion ships he had made with his roommates. But he was glad to be home to good food, his bedroom, and his Blackfoot friends, Micah and Jamison.
Jim and I were mixed about it all too! Funny how when your kids first move out to go to college you're sad and wish they could be home all the time, you miss them and worry. But after a little while you start to get used to them being out of the house. You start to not worry so much, (you pray alot though, and have faith they will be watched over) and you start to enjoy your spouses company and get to know them better, and you get closer!
AND you get used to just the two of you, and the house stays cleaner and groceries go further.
But my kids will always be welcome at home when they need to be there. I love them dearly and hope all goes well with their schooling and that they will be able to find good careers and companions.
Family is awesome............and for a few months it's okay to have a half full nest again. :)

The Bergeson Bash / 4th of July

Goodness... it's been over a month since the 4th of July. Where has the summer gone??
Well, this year we did our annual Bergeson Bash / 4th of July party a little differently. At Mom and Dad's anniversary party last April, a few of us mentioned the up and coming 4th of July party and wondered where it was going to be this year, and if we were still going to have it. Some of us, mostly Gary and Carol, had noticed that mom and dad's house was in need of a fresh coat of paint. We thought it would be fun to get together Tuesday night, the 3rd, and have supper and visit, and those that wanted to, could sleep out. Then we would all get up early and paint the house, and eat scones and the works for breakfast. So that is what we did, although at the time of planning the big party, we didn't think about all the many hours of prep work it would take to get the house ready for paint... you can't just start painting. Thanks to Gary and Carol it was ready the morning of the 4th. They did all the prep work.... they are awesome and worked sooo hard!
Most of us gathered at Mom and Dad's house Tuesday the 3rd, for pulled pork sandwiches and plenty of salads, jello, and desserts. I even made cookie dough truffles. I must have forgotten my camera that night because I didn't have any pictures! oops! It was a pretty nice evening, a little breezy but not bad. After eating until we were stuffed, and visiting for a little bit, we all went home or to our tents to sleep and get ready for the next morning.
I got up early the morning of the 4th, and made scone dough, a fruit bowl, and honey butter. I headed to Mom and Dad's to make some scones, hash browns and mom and dad made bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs for the paint crew! Gary was up at the crack of dawn painting along with a few others....
                                                           the early crew....
Yum!! my scones and hash browns cooking...
not a very flattering pic of me... the sun was bright...I had quite the sunburn on the back of my neck!
Sarah seemed to have a hard time waking up!
cooking....
I asked Sarah and Kella to take some pics while I was cooking... and this is what I got. I didn't mean a bunch of pictures of just them... but they are cute anyway.
The many faces of Kella and Sarah....
the sillies! they did manage a few other pics too....
busy painting....
and cleaning up after a few Oops's
Carol (above) Jon and Gary below....
                                                 the paint crew.......
                                       more painting............
we all look busy!
at least Sarah and Kella were busy getting in almost every pic... and others did a lot of visiting
                                                 more silly pics.....
the girls below all slept in the tree house..... I am not sure how comfortable that would be!
Jim and Virginia had a good visit, and a good game of Poker with Andrew and his friend from school...
After the house was painted, and we cleaned up, some of us went home, others stayed around and visited. Then is was lunch time and we ate the leftovers from the night before. After that every one left to go watch the fireworks where ever they had planned to go. Jim, Virginia, and me and Sarah went in to Jensen's grove. Andrew and his friend went back to Rexburg since they had school the next day, but managed to see a few fireworks along the way.
We took Jim's truck and found an awesome parking spot... the sunset was amazing while we were waiting for it to go down so the fireworks could start.
                                                            waiting for the fireworks....
Sarah had a perfect spot to watch the fire works... Jim and his mom were watching netflix as they waited.
Then it was time!!
My pictures don't do them justice... they were amazing.....
then we went home. We stopped at Mom and Dad's and lit off the silly little fireworks that Sarah and I had bought. It was fun and we all had a good laugh!!
we had these little fireworks that would flash like strobe lights so Sarah and I would dance really silly and Jim happened to get a picture! LOL
Don't you love family get togethers? I'm grateful that we live in this country and for the family I have been blessed with! Happy 4th of July!
