my new passion!

I think I'm getting hooked on Crocheting!!! A girl I work with and Katie, my YW's advisor, both had the cutest crocheted head bands on the other day! I thought they were sooooo cute I had to find a pattern! I ran across this web site, www.etsy.com, there are soooo many cute patterns there! I've ordered some from this http://www.rakjpatterns.etsy.com/

and http://yarnlovertn.etsy.com/

That's all I've done the past couple of nights is crochet, it might take over my cooking!! (Maybe I'll lose weight!!)
Does anyone want to have a crochet craft day???

Snow is cold... but it was quite beautiful

This morning the sunrise was beautiful!! It was so cold that the trees were all covered with frost and the sight out my back window was awesome! I just had to take a few photos!!!
And by the way, Sarah and Dave made it to Rexburg and we all survived our first days back to work and school!

Snow, snow, snow........

Well, we woke up to MORE snow today! And reluctantly got ready for church and shoveled our way out to the cars. Church was good, but while we were there it snowed more!!! The other Ward that meets after us called off church. It continued to snow all afternoon! I can't remember when it snowed this much this early in the year.
Looks like winter is here to stay... and with it comes the worry of worrying about your kids and loved ones driving in it, and will they be safe, and hoping they don't get stuck, and will the other people drive safely so they don't cause accidents. Oh, how I wish we could all hibernate for the winter and be together like we are during the holidays, and all be safe at home and not have to go out and about.

This is out our back door....

These are out our front door.....

We had a fun afternoon of eating Lasagna and Carrot cake afterwards for my Mom's birthday dinner. Her birthday is tomorrow and we thought we'd have a little celebration to carry on with the holiday weekend. It was fun. We also played games and had a few laughs.

Dad blew out the candles for Mom cuz she had a cold and didn't want to blow germs on the cake!

Sarah and Dave decorated our tree.... they did a fine job!

But then afterwards, the realization that the week was over and the kids have to drive back to school hit me and I got a bit sad. I love it when we are all here enjoying each others company, and we are safe and warm. But I guess we each have to get on with our own lives... if we stayed all together then we might get tired of each other , and we would run out of money, eventually we'd have to work... I guess what I'm trying to say is "I don't like snow"!
I also dislike being cold, when your cold it's almost painful, your hands and feet hurt, but when you are hot, you can fan yourself, eat a popsicle or just sit and sweat, but it's not that painful....
I just hope and pray that we all get to where we need to be and all goes well this week... despite the snow.

What are you thankful for?

This time of year I am so thankful that I have a warm house, and a loving family to come home to everyday. And a husband that takes care of us and puts food on the table, there are soooo many out there who don't have that. But most of all I'm thankful for Heavenly Father, for letting me be born into a wonderful family, in a wonderful country, and having the privilages that we do. Aren't we lucky??

Thanksgiving Day FUN!!

We had a good Thanksgiving this year! First of all I, decided to change things up a little!! Rather than cook all morning for one meal, and then have it all be over.... I cooked a little here and there all day long and we ate all day long!! Sounds fun doesn't it?
Things were definitely different! It snowed way bad over the weekend and Monday and Tuesday and got really cold for this time of year, like below zero degrees!!! The roadways weren't melting off so Jim's mom, Virginia, decided to not risk the drive and stay in Walla Walla. That was really a change! We've had her here for the last 10-12 years!!! It was different not to wake up to the smell of her coffee in the morning, and not to have her here to play games with!! :o( I was tempted to brew a pot of coffee just for the smell!) But we were all thankful she was home safe and with J.D. and Cari's family.
On Wed., I had to work a full day, so I didn't get in my afternoon of cooking pies, and things ahead of time. I did get in a bit after work. Then Sarah and I went to get Dave from the Idaho Falls Airport! The roads were quite scary. We thought we'd be better off taking the old highway there, but I could only go about 25 to 30 miles an hour before hitting ruts and fish tailing. So it took us way long to get there. His plane landed and he was waiting for his luggage before we got there. We felt bad we were not there to welcome him!! But we finally made it, and the luggage was just barely getting there so we would've had to wait anyway, it all worked out. Sarah and Dave were so cute when they saw each other again!! Cute! He had to be really careful on the ice because of his leg and brace. He does really well with a crutch though.
We decided to try the freeway for the way home and it was just as scary with black ice here and there along the way... but I could go about 35 to 40... We made it home safe and sound! Yay! I dropped Sarah and Dave off at Mom and Dad's at about 1 AM!
Then at 5:30 AM I woke up and was trying to plan my day: when I would cook everything, what we would do, and when was I going to take a shower??? Does anyone else do that?? Finally I thought to myself, If I'm going to lay awake... I might as well be up doing something. So I made our Pumpkin Scones for breakfast, and took a shower! Then I delivered the Scones down to Mom and Dads.
Then it was back to my house to make stuffed mushrooms, bruschetta, and Butternut Squash soup. I had decided it would be fun to have an appetiser, light lunch course about 11:30.

Mom, Dad , Sarah and Dave came about then, and everything was ready, so we ate! It was fun!! The soup was yummo! (I will post the recipe on my other blog) Everyone seemed to like doing our Thanksgiving day this way.

After our lite lunch, Mom,Dad, Sarah and Dave tried out one of our new games, Scribblish! (I recommend that game, it's way fun!)

I went to the kitchen and got our turkey in the oven, made cranberry chutney, green bean casserole, stuffing, peeled the potatoes, got the gravy started, and made my dinner rolls! And even had time to play a round or two of the game! Jim and Andrew are not in to game playing very much.... They were watching T.V. all afternoon!

Then are dinner was done!! Yummo!! Everything turned out good, and we had a lovely time visiting as we ate.

not sure why these pictures turned out so blurry!!!

Mom helped me clean up a bit, and we watched some old movies that Sarah had brought in one room, and what was on T.V. in the other room. After an hour or so, it was time for pie!!

I had made a pecan pie, and a strawberry cheesecake pie. Mom had made her famous pumpkin pie.. Yumm!! They were all good! I couldn't pick my favorite! Then we tried out our other two games. (I had told Sarah to go get a game the other day from Walmart, and she came home with 3! I was going to save some for Christmas but decided that since we were all together why not play them now, and I'll put them under the tree unwrapped so they still count as a gift!) We got "Imaginiff" which is way fun!! and "The game of things" it was fun. It's always a good time with Mom and Dad playing. Sometimes we were laughing so hard we had tears running down our faces.
All in all I liked what we did ! It made the day last longer, and we got to try more food!! I think we will make this a tradition from now on!!
I'm so thankful for my family, for the ability I have that I like to cook and it turns out good, that I'm able to have a nice house, and buy the things we need with a few splurges now and then, and that we have electricity and are able to have a warm house. I'm so thankful that we were all able to be together and enjoy each other's company despite the snowy cold day.
Happy Thanksgiving!!

Spa Night with Sarah

Well, Friday night Sarah came home for Thanksgiving week!! woo hooo! I had an appointment to get my hair trimmed and colored Saturday at noon, so I thought I had better put a deep conditioner on it so it was in good condition! My hair has been awful since my surgery...but has improved since I started taking some good hair, nail, and collegen vitamins. But anyway, we thought it was a perfect reason to have a spa night. Jim refused to join us... I don't know why! :o)
We washed our hair and put this Wen conditioner in it (Thanks Juli) and wrapped towels over it to keep it in. We left that on for a half an hour. Which was perfect time to soak our feet!!

my water was way hot!! and I couldn't even keep my toes in it!! Sarah's was more cool so we mixed them and then it was perfect!!

After soaking our feet, we rinsed out the conditioner, and our hair felt amazing!!! Then we pumice stoned our feet to make them smooth and put my minty feet lotion on them. Then I painted Sarah's toes and fingernails! It was a wonderful evening!
I highly recommend a spa night once in a while! oh! I should have remembered to look at the recipe for the chocolate facial on my neice's blog... will have to remember that next time!!
